Perfumes and Cosmetics - The ABC's of Makeup

Perfumes and cosmetics have been around for years. Women across the ages have always used cosmetic products to enhance their beauty. Since they have been around for so long, a vast array of products and uses have become available. Cosmetics range from eye shadow and mascara to nail polish and moisturizers.

A trip to your local department store can leave the average consumer mesmerized by the selection available. This guide will help you through the myriad products, and how to pick what is right for you.

We will start with facial makeup, and then move on to the eyes, and lips, and lastly, perfume.

Face

Moisturizers: These are important as they help the skin stay moist, and prevents the skin form drying out, which is common when wearing make up. It is best to moisturize your skin every day, as it gives the skin a young, healthy, and fresh feel.

Concealer: This is a cream or powder that is skin colored, and is used to cover up scars, acne and any other blemishes on the skin.

Foundation and Bronzers: Foundation is also a skin toned cosmetic. It is applied to your face to create an smooth, even, color to your skin. The best foundations should not color your skin at all, rather it should just give it a natural look. Bronzer is a powder or cream that can be slightly darker than your natural complexion, This is used to give yourself a tanned look. Bronzers come in varying shades from fair to very dark.

Blush: Blush, also known as Rouge, is applied to the cheeks to give them a bit of color. These have mostly pink and red tints. Applying blush from the jaw upwards gives your cheekbones a more striking appearance.

Eyes

Eyeshadow: Eyeshadows are applied by brush to the eyelids. Eye shadow can be applied above the eyes as well, up until the brow bone. You can choose from many striking colors for the lids, although it is best to use a more natural color for the area above the eyelid. Eyeshadows are available in all colors of the rainbow. You can use a blue eyeshadow to bring out your blue eyes, or purple to bring out green eyes. There are also many subtle tans, beiges, and browns if you are looking for a more natural look.

Eyeliner: Eyeliners usually come as a pencil or marker. They define the eye, giving it a dramatic look. Eyeliner Pencils give a bit more of a subtle shape, while the markers are more dramatic. It is recommended to use a light-colored liner, such as gray, for light-colored eyes, and a black or brown eyeliner for dark eyes,

Mascara: Mascara is makeup that is used to define, elongate, and thicken the eyelashes. It is applied by gently pulling the mascara brush through your eyelashes from the bottom up.

Lips

Lipliner: Lipliners are pencils that are used to draw the outline of the lips to give them a defined shape.

Lipstick and Lipgloss: Lipsticks look a bit like a crayon which is used to color the lips. Lipgloss is similar to lipstick, however it is more liquidy, and gives the lips more of a shiny look. Lipgloss can be applied on top of lipstick, or can be worn on its own.

Perfume

To complete the make up, you need a great perfume. Similar to make up, there are hundreds of different scents out there, and you have to find one (or a few) that suit you best. It is worth trying out a few different perfumes to find one you are satisfied with. At most good perfume stores, they will have tester bottles and experienced salespeople that can help you chose what is right for you.
